CANADA: In the wake of last Friday`s bleak US non-farm payroll result

(-651k job losses + -161k backward revisions) Canada releases its

February jobs data this Friday (the 13th). "Canada`s employment elevator

is heading down so the only question is just how many floors it dropped

in February after plunging so steeply the prior month" says Avery

Shenfeld of CIBC World Markets. Given the larger Jan plunge (-129k job

losses) he looks for "a lighter if still formidable loss of 45000"

this month which will push the unemployment rate to 7.5% (from 7.2% in

Jan). One "saving grace" is that CIBC`s call implies a participation

rate of 62.4% in Feb "miles above the 56.1% of the working age

population that held a job at the worst of the 1982 recession" Shenfeld

says. Market players will need to see a "lightening up" in US and

Canadian job losses before there is more positive sentiment toward

buying equities he adds.

ECB Weber

FRANKFURT (MNI) - The world economy is in the midst of a pronounced

slump that could prove worse and longer than previously expected

European Central Bank Governing Council member Axel Weber said Tuesday.

"The world economy is now in a sharp downturn in which financial

market turbulences continue to constitute a downside risk"

Weber is operating on the assumption the Bundesbank said that the

real economy could be affected to a greater extent and duration than

thought up to now.

"Because of the declining export demand the German economy is

especially hard hit" he said adding that slower consumer prices are

supporting purchasing power.

"In this year we will see some months with negative inflation

rates. But this should not be confused with deflation" Weber said.


EU Leaders

BRUSSELS (MNI) - The European economic situation is deteriorating

but policy makers don`t see the need for additional stimulus measures

Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker said in Brussels on Monday.



"We have seen considerable deterioration in the economic situation

since our February meeting and there`s no obvious indicator that gives

us any reason to believe that the situation is turning around" Juncker

said at a press conference following a meeting of finance ministers from

the sixteen countries that use the euro.

"All the forecasts that we have available are extremely gloomy so

this is a deep recession we`re going through -- certainly deeper than

what we saw at the beginning of the 1990s" Juncker said.

Днес,срив на стоковите борси в Канада.Положението е меко казано сериозно.

Индексите на фондовите борси вървят надолу от доста време - някъде от към края на 2007, сериозен срив имаше през септември миналата година, имаше и няколко перида на силни подскоци нагоре-надолу в рамкине на няколко дена. През последните 2-3 седмици имаше нов срив - някои от индексите стигнаха рекордно ниски нива, невиждани от години.
Положението е повече от сериозно - най-вече за тези които имат инвестиции на борсата.

Днес индексите вървят нагоре, да видим до къде ще стигнат.
