Hi,
I want also to share my frustration.
All written in the 8 reasons is true. It is not enough to describe our strain, constant humiliation, unacceptance.
I have a PhD in materials science. I did my PhD in Finland. Originally I am from Bulgaria - Eastern Europe.
When I first moved to Canada there were thousands of reasons not to talk to me - accent, PhD from Europe, lack of Canadian experience. Well, I got a one year post doc - below the standard of payment and guess what?
The story for the naked king. This is what they are. An underdeveloped, racist breed, who are afraid for their bread – this is why they are keeping us out of their lives. They want us out. They want all for themselves and their families. They take one or two from time to time for the appearance: just to prove that my words are not true.
Some of you here speak about Canadian education - well after having a student loan of 20000 and more, they still do not hire you, do they? So they want more (money).
Like me - 10 years ago I was young and my specialty not in demand. 10 years after that I am old and my specialty rare or NOT exact match.
You know what - these people are fruitless trees: they have no morals, no conscience and they are stupid. Because if they are smart they will need every person who comes to Canada. If they are smart they will develop - not wait on the US.
They simply do not deserve us. The worse thing is that our children became like them - callous, tired, cruel, calculating.
And they are small minded and prejudiced - when someone immigrates from Austria, or Germany - wow, they get completely different salaries and they are treated differently.
See, but I have worked since 2000 in many countries outside Canada including Germany, Austria. I know the level of the science there - not that it is low. The point is, that we, people from Eastern Europe are the masterminds in Western Europe - we do their work, ideas, all.
Naturally our work is stolen there because we are treated like garbage in our own country.
That means they do not need qualified people, they are simply racists, small minds and prejudiced people.
The best for 10 years Canadian life is that I was "invited" for an interview after 5 months talks. The answer is below. All was false, make up, Canadian generosity - to show me some attention so that I have hope - unrealistic hope, a theatre. And THAT was the BEST I got here. After that I can go on a pension (without money).

Dear Karen,
After much careful thought and consideration, unfortunately, I will
not be able to hire you into my group at this time. While your talents
and skills are very strong, there just is not enough of a match between
your capabilities and background and the current needs of my group. I
do know that you could be of help to us in terms of characterization of
our materials, but this is an area that I more or less already have
people trained in, and also not where my present funds should be
targeted.
I very much enjoyed meeting you and will keep my ears and eyes open for
opportunities for you, so that you can get back into the research area
as soon as possible. It might be an idea for you to check out the NINT
webpage, as they may have some openings in areas more related to your
background and interests. Also, if something changes in my research
portfolio and a project should come up in my group which better suits
your interests (and this could happen, one never knows), I will contact
you at that time.
I wish you all the best in your next steps and I hope that we meet
again in the near future. If I can be of help to you in terms of
providing any advice, or in terms of professional or technical issues,
please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely
Viola Birss
