Composer in a Racial No Man's Land
Life and Times of Pancho Vladigerov
Lecture-Recital
Dimiter Terziev, Piano
Pancho Vladigerov (1899-1978) is the most celebrated Bulgarian composer of all times. He was of bothBulgarian and Jewish descent and spent two decades of his life in Germany. The lecture-recital focuses not only on the composer's life and music, but also explores the contradictory and complex policy regarding “mischlinge” - people of mixed origin in Germany and its wayward ally Bulgaria during the Nazi era.
Dimiter Terziev also performs twelve of Vladigerov's pieces and outlines the composer's various influences and stylistic evolution. The event provides a great opportunity both to piano music lovers and 20th century European history fans.
