Budgeting... a few tips
A basic rule:
“Do not spend more than you earn”
At home:
• Limit food shopping to once a week.
• Buy clothes that are washable. Avoid those that require dry-cleaning.
• Hang clothes to dry.
• Shop at used (second hand) clothing stores.
• Exchange children’s clothes with friends and neighbours.
Family Entertainment:
• Eliminate cable TV service.
• Do inexpensive family things together: skating, parks, picnics, and
libraries.
Transportation:
• Consider moving closer to work.
• Use public transportation whenever possible.
• Drive small cars that cost less to operate.
• Become familiar with a city map to travel the most direct routes.
Savings:
• Develop a Money Management Plan and involve all family members
• Pay yourself first. Use payroll deduction for savings.
• Keep loose change for savings.
Sell your Skills:
• Look at your talents and see if you may profit from them -car
repairs, typing, doing taxes, cake decorating, lessons, crafts.
• Consider trading skills with friends and neighbours instead of
paying for these services:

Budgeting is becoming aware of where your money goes.
Know what you are spending per month. Multiply weekly expenses by four.
This is an especially important method when you are paid monthly.
