Putting her skills to work.
Mariana Gerenska has been in Canada for less than a year and is already working in a field of her choice. But, after first arriving in July 30, 2004, from her homeland of Bulgaria, Gerenska and her husband, Konstantin, felt let down.“There is no channel of
communication between the authorities developing the immigration requirements
and here. We were screened really thoroughly for a period of about four years, but then,
when we arrived, we found out that the link is broken and we are left to downgrade as much as we want to,” she says, citing the example of highly skilled immigrants becoming
janitors and maids. But she was lucky. Gerenska, who has four master’s degrees from various European universities and was a training manager and organizational development consultant in Bulgaria, came to Canada with the hopes of becoming a university professor, an organizational development consultant or a coach, as well as
pursuing a Ph.D. Fulfilling one of her goals, she found a job with Ashton College in Vancouver. “I am currently a business instructor in the new HR Diploma Program at Ashton College. I just applied for the job and I got it,” she says. “I love the program — it is the most innovative and suitable for a global HR program I have ever seen. “I am
lucky to have immediately started doing what I was well educated for and I think this is
appreciated by both my students and the college.” Despite her good fortune, Gerenska says she still can’t stop thinking about how much immigrant potential is wasted. “If Canada wants to attract high-calibre immigrants, it should have a system to maximize their potential once they arrive. Why go through such an elaborate screening procedure if this is not the case?” Gerenska’s success is only proof that skilled immigrants
have what it takes to contribute to Canada; they just need an employer to give them their first chance. Статията заедно съсъ снимка можере да намерите тук. http://www.thecanadianimmigrant.com/dow ... _May05.pdf
