Career Bridge is an innovative program that offers paid internships for highly-trained recent immigrants – men and women with a minimum of 3 years international work experience who are ready and qualified to apply their skills to the Canadian workplace.

Career Bridge also helps employers across all industry sectors to recruit qualified new Canadians for a wide range of professional and managerial positions.

Career Bridge will begin in the fall of 2003 as a pilot project that targets employers and interns in the Toronto area.

Why Career Bridge
Career Bridge addresses the long-term concern that Canadian businesses often overlook or underutilize the talents of qualified people who are recent arrivals from abroad. The program is the first initiative of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC).

The Career Bridge Pilot Phase
Career Bridge will be launched in phases, beginning with the pilot phase that will operate from November 2003 to March 2004. Only a limited number of internships (approximately 50 positions) will be offered during the pilot phase. If the pilot is successful, we expect to be able to offer more internship on an on-going basis beginning in the spring of 2004.

The pilot program will link Toronto-area employers with immigrants who hold international business experience and verified education credentials. Their expertise and skills include technology, engineering, finance and accounting, manufacturing management, international marketing and human resources – all in high demand. Career Bridge interns will be qualified to work in Canada and will be pre-screened for workplace language skills (English and/or French, as required by employers), education, and international work experience.
